The stock market is not the economy. It’s a thermostat for how the wealthy are doing. And it’s up 8% this year and hitting record highs. That’s because we’ve allowed that wealth to become concentrated in the hands of a few. The more of us that invest, the more we can spread that wealth. Although investing isn’t the solution to wealth inequality, it’s a small step many of us can take in that direction. Without investing I wouldn’t be able to retire early or move abroad.
