Just days before returning to Earth amid a crew member medical issue, Japanese astronaut Kimiya Yui captured stunning video of an aurora from aboard the International Space Station. This solar storm, which reached what’s known as G4 — or “severe” status, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration — caused charged particles released by a coronal mass ejection to collide with the Earth’s magnetosphere.
