The northern lights don’t often reach Nebraska’s skies, but strong geomagnetic storms can bring them into view a few times a year. Captured near Crawford by photographer @erikjohnsonphoto, their colorful glow illuminated the night behind an abandoned homestead. Also known as aurora borealis, the display begins when ions from the sun collide with gas atoms in Earth’s atmosphere. See more Photos of the Day at the link in bio.
