the most interesting part of this backlash is that anthropic has been cultivating creators for a long long long time & almost no one really noticed (or at least there was no backlash like this). i think the difference was execution. anthropic kept it subtle with private dinners, very private events, & pure creator content. no conspicuous luxury retreats (at least none that i am aware of at all). but openai made the influence operation completely visible & that’s probably what irked ppl.
