Claude Sonnet 5 is out from @AnthropicAI. What stands out is how close it gets to Opus 4.8 in many of the areas people actually care about: coding, tool use, agentic tasks and general knowledge. But it comes in at a much lower price. The intro pricing is $2 / $10 per million input/output tokens until August 31, then $3 / $15. Opus 4.8 is still $5 / $25. So this looks like Anthropic bringing near-Opus performance into the Sonnet tier. That’s a pretty big deal for anyone building with agents.
